PORT ANGELES – A man is in jail after threatening motel staff and guests with a weapon like a machete.
Monday evening, Port Angeles Police Officers responded to reports a guest at a hotel in the five hundred block of E. 1st Street had threatened an employee and another guest with an edged weapon like a machete.
Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada says officers then got more information about the man’s erratic behavior and found him in his room. He wouldn’t come out.
That’s when Viada says they got a search warrant, but things continued to be erratic.
“And officers, who are also trained as negotiators, spoke with the man until he came out of the room. However, when he came out he charged and the officers used the taser to stop him. He was arrested and booked into the jail and during the follow-up investigation. The officers recovered two, edged weapons with 12 inch curved blades,” said Viada
37-year-old Alexander Chapman faces assault charges. Bail was set at $50,000 and he’ll be arraigned Friday.
