BREMERTON — The Port Angeles Roughriders went on a 13-point run in the first quarter and blew the Knights out of Bremerton 65-28. The second quarter was even better for the Roughriders as they outscored the Knights 20- 0 to lead 33-8 at the half. Freshman Lexie Smith had the hot hand early hitting 3, 3-point shots and had nine points for the game. Sr. Bailee Larson had another big night scoring eleven points and threading several zip line passes for assists to her fast-breaking teammates. With 7:24 left in the game Larson made the shot of the year. Right in front of the Roughrider bench Larson hit a three ball and was fouled as the Roughriders exploded off the bench. Larson completed the 4-point play, and the Roughriders lead 50-19. Eve Burke lead the way with 17 points. Jr. Anna Petty had seven points on the night while Paige Mason and Jenna McGoff each had six. The Roughriders head to North Kitsap Thursday night. A Port Angeles win and the Roughriders and Sequim Wolves could have a playoff game Saturday at a neutral site for the league championship.
Speaking of the Wolves they knocked off Kingston last night 45-41. Sophomore Jolene Vaara lead the way with thirteen points and thirteen rebounds. Sophomore Taryn Johnson had eight points four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sr. Hannah Wagner had eight points and seven rebounds. Jr. Hannah Bates had five points five rebounds seven steals and four assists.
In boys action Port Angeles beat Bremerton 70-56. Wyatt Dunning lead the Roughriders with thirty points and John Vaara added twenty-six. The eighth ranked Roughriders now host #1 ranked North Kitsap Thursday night. All fans are welcome to attend the game, but masks must be worn.
In NWAC action tonight the Pirates have a doubleheader at Bellevue. The sixth ranked Pirate Women tip off at 5 pm and the men will follow.
