BELLEVUE — The sixth ranked Peninsula Pirates women basketball team at Bellevue started the game with a 10-point run leading 25-9 after the first quarter and Bellevue never threatened as Peninsula knocked of the Bulldogs 65-45. The Pirates shot well from the field shooting 46% and they were 13 of 15 from the line for 86%. Former Roughrider Millie Long lead the Pirates with fifteen points to go with seven steals. Former Sequim Wolf Hope Glasser scored eleven points and pulled down seven rebounds. Kelli-Jade Smith hit for eleven points and had four steals. The Pirates are now 5-1 in Northern Conference play and 14-3 overall. The Pirates have a big game Saturday at Shoreline.
Last night’s Peninsula Pirates men’s 85-80 win against Bellevue saw the Pirates cold shooting in the first half just as it was against Everett Saturday night. The Pirates shot just 38% from the field and 28% from the 3-point stripe as Bellevue went into the locker room at the half leading the Pirates 43-35. In the second half the Pirates heated up and Jaylin Reed the 6’4″Sophomore out of Lodi CA hit for thirty points. Reed was 5 of 10 from the 3-point stripe to go with eight rebounds. Michael Medlock the 6’4″ Freshman from Las Vegas hit 4 of 6 shots from the 3-point stripe and scored sixteen points. Isaiah Sampson a 6’6″ Sophomore from Camas had twelve points and six rebounds. The Pirates shot 46% from the field and were 10 of 22 from the 3-point stripe for a sizzling 45%. The Pirates outscored Bellevue 50-37 in the second half. The Pirates are now 4-2 in conference play and 12-6 overall. Peninsula travels to Shoreline on Saturday.

Two big games in high school action tonight the Port Angeles girls travel to North Kitsap for a 7 pm tip off. A Port Angeles win will put the Roughriders in a first-place tie with Sequim. At press time a neutral site was needed for the two teams to play at on Saturday for the League Championship. If not, the league office will have to flip a coin to decide the league Championship.
The eighth ranked Port Angeles boys host the defending state champion North Kitsap Vikings at 7 pm. The Vikings held on to beat the Roughriders by one point earlier this season. The gym is open to all fans, but masks must be worn.
