Port Angeles man gets 25 years for attempted murder

PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles man was given a 25-year prison sentence Monday for Attempted First Degree Murder.

40-year-old Tyler Anderson was sentenced by Judge Brent Basden after entering a plea of guilty to one count of Attempted First Degree Murder with a Deadly Weapon following an attack of an 81-year-old woman in her home in January of last year.

Anderson had followed the woman home after spotting her walking her dog, and tried to force his way into her home. He refused to leave until the woman’s husband joined her at the door, armed with a weapon.

Later that same afternoon, police received a call from a woman who reported screaming and pounding coming from her neighbor’s home. They arrived to find the victim on the bathroom floor with her throat slit. The woman was airlifted to Harborview in Seattle and survived the attack.

Anderson was later found 3 blocks from the scene with a laceration on his hand and the woman’s phone covered in blood. Toxicology subsequently revealed that Anderson was under the influence of Methamphetamine at the time of the attack.
