PORT ANGELES — For those that missed last night’s Roughriders 63-36 district semi-final win over Sequim, all you need to do is watch film of last week’s PA girls’ win over Sequim. Once again, the Wolves could not figure out the Roughriders’ attacks out of their half court zone traps. The Wolves were frantically forced to take bad shots and at one point went from the 4:05 minute mark of the first quarter to the 4:23 mark of the second quarter without making a field goal. At that point, The Roughriders had a commanding 25-8 lead. While the Wolves offense was puzzled, their defense was unable to figure out coach Mike Poindexter’s intricate half court sets. It seemed like Sr. Eve Burke was loose in the paint all night long taking in perfect bounce passes and laying the ball off the glass. Burke led all scorers with nineteen points. Jr. point guard Anna Petty might have had her best game of the season. Petty hit for fifteen points and was instrumental in getting the Roughriders into their fast break offense with her steals or laser passes for wide open lay ins. While Burke was winning her battles inside, Sr. Bailee Larson was finding herself free from the 3-point circle. Larson hit four long range three balls for a total of twelve points. Lexie Smith and Paige Mason each had five points, Angelina Sprague had two points and the loudest cheer of the second half was when Fr. Raeah Kibe scored her first varsity basket. Soph. Jolene Vaara lead the Wolves with eleven points. The Wolves will now travel to Highline High School on Saturday to take on Sammamish for the 3rd and 4th place spots to the Regionals next weekend. Tipoff is at 1 pm. The Roughriders will also travel to Highline Saturday to take on White River for the district championship. Tipoff is set for 5 pm. White River knocked off Sammamish 56-38 in the other semifinal game.

There’s a huge game Friday night for Kasey Ulin’s Roughriders as they take on the White River Hornets at Sammamish High School in a district semifinal game. Tipoff is at 7:45PM. Ulin says White River is just as talented as Sehome, but are are more of a finesse team. In last week’s final A.P. poll, White River was ranked fifth in the state and the Roughriders were ranked seventh with the Roughriders having wins over #1 ranked North Kitsap and #8 ranked Sehome. If the Roughriders win, they will play in the district championship game at 7 pm at Highline. With a loss, the Roughriders will play at Highline for 3rd or 4th place at 3 pm.
