LOCAL SPORTS: High School hoops bracektology, PC preps for must-win games

PORT ANGELES — The brackets are out for the 2022 Class AA regional and state tournament. KONP has hired our own bracketologist, so Sequim Wolves and Port Angeles Roughriders fans well know exactly where and who their hometown teams will play.

Beginning with the Wolves, they will be underdogs to a young but very well coached Lynden Lion team. The loser of this game is done for the season. The winner will play next Wednesday at 12:15 pm against the loser of the #5 seed Archbishop Murphy and #4 seed WF West game.

The #6 seed Port Angeles Roughrider girls will be slight underdogs when they travel to Battle Ground on Saturday for a noon tip off against #3 seed Hudson Bay. The winner will play a week from Thursday at 12:15 pm. The loser will play next Wednesday at 9 am against the winner of the #14 seed Enumclaw and #11 seed Prosser game.

The #7 seed Port Angeles Roughrider Boys will be slight underdogs to #2 seed Lynden, Friday night at Mount Vernon with the tip off at 8 pm. The winner will play a week from Thursday at 9 pm while the loser will play a week from Wednesday at 5:30 pm against the #10 seed Franklin Pierce #15 seed WF West game. The winner of that game could meet North Kitsap Thursday in a quarter final game.

KONP will broadcast all the Port Angeles and Sequim games through the state playoffs on AM 1450, FM 101.7 (Port Angeles area), FM 101.3 (Sequim area) and streaming online at myclallamcounty.com

In NWAC action tonight, if Allison Crumb’s 6th ranked Peninsula Pirates women want a chance at the Northern Division Championship tonight’s game against Whatcom is a must win. The Orcas are a game up on the Pirates beating the Pirates earlier in the season in Port Angeles. In that game Pirates point guard Millie Long was out with a sickness as well as other Pirates. The Pirates tip off at 5 pm. The Pirate men will follow and desperately need to beat the last place Orcas if they want a shot at making the NWAC tournament.
