BELLINGHAM — The Peninsula Pirates men blew out Whatcom on the road 101-63. Jaylin Reed, a sophomore out of Lodi, CA, hit for 38 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Reed was 7 of 13 from the 3 Point stripe. Las Vegas freshman Michael Medlock hit for 15 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Camas native Isaiah Sampson had 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Pirates out rebounded Whatcom 50-19. The Pirates shot 52% from the field and they were 14 of 28 from the 3 Point. stripe for 50%. The Pirates win puts them tied for 3rd with Shoreline with 6-4 conference records, the Pirates are 14-8 overall. The top 4 teams in the conference will play in the NWAC tournament starting March 17th in Everett. The Pirates are home this Saturday with Edmonds.
Pirate women continue to roll
Two of the top 6 teams in the NWAC played like it in an incredible game that saw Allison Crumb’s 6th ranked Pirates women knock off the 4th ranked Whatcom Orcas 73-61 to put the two teams in a tie for first place in the Northern Conference with 9-1 records. Both teams have 4 games left with the Pirates having 3 games at home and they will be heavy favorites in all 4 games. All the Pirates were heroes, but the biggest two were Millie Long and Kelli-Jade Smith. The Pirates lead 56-48 to start the 4th Quarter but the Orcas started the quarter on a 9-point run to take a 57-56 lead with 6:22 left. That’s when Smith and Long took over the game. Smith hit two big time 3-point shots and Long scored 9 points in the last 4 minutes of the game. Long’s stat line looked like a great day at the New York Stock Exchange, as she hit for 25 points; dished out 7 assists; pulled down 6 rebounds; had 2 steals and was 12 of 15 from the free throw stripe. Jade Smith had 22 points and was a sizzling 6 of 9 from the 3-point stripe. The Pirates will host Edmonds Saturday night.
