Sequim Sunshine Festival lives up to its name

By Pepper Fisher

SEQUIM – The third annual Sequim Sunshine Festival appears to have been a big success over the weekend, thanks in part to the beautiful weather, which brought thousands of people outdoors to enjoy what was likely, for many, their first festival experience in a long time.

We spoke Monday with one of the creators of the event, Marketing Director Barb Hanna.

“All of the events, including Friday night, the Civic Center Plaza was packed. And I had stopped by a couple of restaurants and the galleries, and everything was just really crowded. I think the community was really ready to come out. It was a really, really fun event to be a part of.”

Hanna says the registration record of the sold-out Sun Fun Color Run indicated they had participants from all over the region. Food vendors were running out of product and making numerous store runs to restock, always a good sign.

Because it was primarily outdoors, masks were optional for most events, and Hanna says the latest guidelines from health officials appear to be welcome news.

As always, the festival ended Saturday night with another spectacular drone show, and Hanna says it, too, was a big success.

“I know I will get some numbers from the Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, that helped us with parking management and traffic for the drone show. I don’t have those numbers yet, but I know that it will be in the thousands.”
