PORT ANGELES – Crews rescued a 72-year-old man and a dog after they he fell over a bluff east of Port Angeles.
Clallam 2 Fire Rescue was called to the scene near the Lee’s Creek ravine about 2:30 yesterday afternoon. That’s where they found the man had fallen over a 50-foot embankment and couldn’t climb back to the top. The man had gone after a dog that had gone down the embankment when he fell. The victim and the dog had managed to find a flat spot and was stable on the incline until rescuers could reach them.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue’s technical rescue team members deployed a high-angle rope rescue system to lower a rescuer to the victim and the dog and bring them back up. The dog and man reported no injuries, but the man was taken to Olympic Medical Center as a precaution.
