Sequim VFW robbed, upstairs tenant arrested

By Pepper Fisher

SEQUIM – A Sequim man is in custody today, accused of breaking into the Sequim VFW Friday night and stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of property.

The break-in happened after closing time Friday night, discovered by an employee when they opened up Saturday morning to find the bar area ransacked. Missing were an estimated $5,000 worth of band equipment, a tv, lighted beer signs, many bottles of alcohol and more.

Police say management had suspicions about a tenant living upstairs above the VFW, and when they checked his apartment they found the stolen items.

Police arrested 29-year-old Jordan Salo Saturday on burglary and theft charges. After being booked into the Clallam County Jail, Deputy Chief Mike Hill told us Salo denied committing the crimes.

All of the stolen items were recovered and released to the VFW. Quartermaster Steve Henriksen says they’re in the process of re-evaluating their security systems.

“Yeah, we’re going to beef up security on it. We’re actually this week talking with some of the security guys about getting some additional security put on the doors and stuff. And we’ve already installed one camera that goes directly to the web. So, you know, if they steal the monitors that have the SD cards in them we’ll have at least one camera now that records to the web so, nothing they can do about that.”

Deputy Chief Hill says the investigation is ongoing to determine if any accomplices were involved.
