Fire torches RV at former Clallam County Humane Society site

PORT ANGELES – Fire ripped through an RV parked on property west of Port Angeles at the site of the former humane society.

Clallam 2 Fire Rescue was called about 9:30 Wednesday night when they found the RV was fully engulfed in flames. It was located about ten feet from the main building of the former animal shelter. Crews reported a shed and other combustible material nearby started to ignite.

The RV’s occupant, believed to be Bob Blagdon, told firefighters there were several propane cylinders inside the RV that were just filled. He confirmed that everyone was out, and the RV was unoccupied.  Blagdon then left the scene.

Fire Chief Jake Patterson says crews were able to quickly knock down the flames and prevent the fire from spreading any further. The RV was a total loss and there was slight damage to the roof and siding of the shed closest to the fire. There was also some material around the RV that was burned. The main structure on the property was not damaged. Because Blagdon left the scene, investigators have been unable to determine the cause of the fire.

The response to the fire forced closing the westbound lane of Highway 101 last night.
