Business, civic leaders honored at Clallam EDC gala

SEQUIM — The Clallam County Economic Development Council awarded local businesses and community leaders for their work in advancing the local economy.

The EDC held its annual gala Friday night at 7 Cedars Casino, the first time in person in two years. Each year the EDC uses the evening to give out its annual Champion Awards.

For 2021, the organization awarded a Champion award to Shore Aquatic Center as best “Non-Profit of the Year”.  The award was given in recognition of both the aquatic’s achievements and superiority of its daily operation.

A Champion Award was given to Interfor as the 2021 “Business of the Year”.   The wood product company west of Port Angeles was recognized for its superior growth as well as overall reputation amongst staff, customers and community.

Marc Abshire was given a Champion Award as 2021 “Clallam County Leader of the Year”.  Abshire is the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce executive director. The EDC noted his already strong leadership was highlighted even more during the Covid crisis.

An evening highlight each year is a successful business person from a high-profile business that the EDC brings in as a speaker for its annual dinner.  This year’s presenter was Ivars Fish and Chips CEO, Bob Donegan.  Ivers is known for thinking out of the box, is strong on employee retention and committed to 100 percent customer satisfaction.
