EVERETT – All that noise you heard Sunday night about 9 pm was the Peninsula Pirates women’s basketball team and their fans celebrating an upcoming trip to the NWAC Final Four. To get there, the Pirates knocked off #4 seed the North Idaho Cardinals 56-48 Saturday night and they did it without conference MVP Millie Long. Keeli-Jade Smith lead the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds.
Last night in an Elite 8 game, the Pirates knocked off a very good Portland Panther team 64-59. Pirate Point Guard Millie Long started and played the entire game coming off an 11-day ankle injury. Ituau Tuisaula was dominating inside with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Hope Glasser hit for 15 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Keeli Jade Smith hit for 11 points. The Pirates will now travel back to Everett for a Final Four match up Saturday night against Clackamas in a 7 pm tip off. Clackamas knocked of Walla Walla in their Elite 8 match up. The other Final Four match up features Lane College against Lower Columbia College with that tip off at 5 pm. The winners will meet at 4:45 on Sunday for the NWAC Championship. KONP will broadcast the Pirates’ games in the Final Four.

In high school sports action, the Port Angeles Roughrider soccer team lost to Kingston 3-2. Dayton Williams and Xander Maestas scored goals for Port Angeles. The Roughriders host North Mason tomorrow at 6:45 pm.
In girls fast pitch action, it was a big weekend for the Sequim Wolves. Sequim beat Forks, Sehome and Anacortes by a combined score of 53-10. The Wolves host Bainbridge tomorrow at 4:15 pm.
Randy Steinman’s state power Port Angeles Roughriders fast pitch team earned 2 wins over the weekend. Port Angeles beat Anacortes 8-1 and a 19-2 win over Sehome. Port Angeles will host Bremerton tomorrow at 4:15 pm.
