Student arrested as Sequim schools put under modified lockdown

SEQUIM – Sequim High School and Olympic Peninsula Academy were operating on a modified lockdown status today until about 11:30.

The move came after Sequim High School administration learned a student made a specific and targeted threat towards a small group of students. The Sequim Police Department investigated and, after interviewing the students who received the threat, a 17-year-old student was taken into custody and has been charged with felony harassment. The student is being held at the Clallam County Youth detention facility.

According to a message released to parents and students, police recommended the modified lockdown include the two campuses due to shared facilities and shared students, and Police had an active presence on campus throughout the school day.

During a modified lockdown, all exterior doors remain locked throughout the school day. Hallway traffic is limited to passing time only, with students remaining in their classrooms during the class period.
