Local Rotary club raising thousands for Ukraine refugee aid

By Pepper Fisher

SEQUIM – Members of the Sequim Noon Rotary club have joined other Rotary clubs in Europe and around the world to provide food, water, medical equipment, and shelter for refugees from the conflict in Ukraine.

As of 1:00pm Thursday, Noon Rotary Club Treasurer Rochelle McHugh says they had raised about $3,000, and that’s just among their members.

“And the beautiful thing about this is, our district includes part of British Columbia and western Washington. The reception to this by our district has been so good, District is also doubling their effort. So if we’re all successful, we will be contributing a hundred thousand dollars from our district.”

In addition, they’re now opening up the fundraiser to the public to collect even more.

According to the United Nations, more than 2 million people, most of them women and children, have sought refuge in neighboring countries and across Europe, while about 1 million more people have been displaced within Ukraine.

Because there are Rotary Clubs throughout Europe and worldwide, the funds can easily be transferred directly to where they are needed most during this crisis.

“And the monies will go directly to clubs that are able to distribute aid in the form of food clothing, shelter, medical equipment, whatever they need.”

If you’d like to contribute to this very worthy cause and know that the funds will be in good hands, here’s what you do.

“If a person Google’s Rotary Ukraine disaster relief, it will take them directly to that link.”
