OPNET and DOC officials break up prison drug-smuggling ring

By Pepper Fisher

FORKS – An investigation that began when prison guards noticed that several inmates were showing signs of being high on drugs has led to the arrest of 3 people and additional charges for an inmate.

It was in December when officials at the Olympic Corrections Center, a minimum-security prison in Forks, began looking into how multiple inmates were getting the drugs. The investigation led them to 24-year-old Luis Reyes as the inmate arranging the introduction of drugs into the facility.

They learned that Reyes had arranged for his sister, who lives in Seatac, to drive to the facility and throw packages containing suboxone, heroin and meth over the fence. OPNET and DOC investigators decided the next time that happened, they’d be there to intercept the delivery.

On December 16 they found a car stuck in a ditch a half mile from the facility at the edge of the woods. A 30-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were near the car. Meanwhile, DOC investigators recovered a package inside the facility containing about $1,600 worth of drugs.

The investigation led to probable cause to arrest the two near the car and Reyes’ sister in Seatac, who is believed to have provided the drugs.
