PORT ANGELES- A fire was set inside a vacant downtown Port Angeles building Saturday night
Port Angeles Fire Department crews were called to the abandoned building next to Mathews Glass along Front Street just before 10 pm
Upon arrival to the two- story building, crews reported smoke showing in the front doorway. Port Angeles Police officers at the scene reported a transient group was staying inside and one of them started a fire in a shopping cart to try to provide heat. Everyone inside the building was believed to have gotten out.
Fire crews were able to douse the remnants of the fire and hot spots. The fire was mostly contained to the shopping cart and did not spread to other parts of the building.
The building has now been boarded up.
