PORT ANGELES – As if the newly-constructed Dream Playground wasn’t enough, things are about to heat up once again at the Erickson Playground in Port Angeles.

Starting Monday, the Parks & Recreation Department and the Lincoln Park BMX Association are set to begin construction of the new Pump Track.

A pump track is a rolling series of looping paths that propel you along on your bike, scooter, skateboard or wheelchair, as you pump your body up and down, much as you would to get a swing going. Otherwise, no special equipment is needed – just a helmet.

Construction fencing is being installed today. The worksite will remain closed to the public until the project’s completion, expected to be late June.

The other areas of the park, including the Dream Playground, tennis courts, skate park, calisthenics park, covered picnic area and restrooms will remain open during the work.
