PORT ANGELES – As required by state law, the completion of the United States Census has led to a redrawing of the boundaries of the 3 Clallam County voter districts to see that the population of each is roughly the same.
Our County Commissioners on Tuesday formally approved the changes that have been made, and that means some voters are now in a new precinct or a new district.
For instance, the Carlsborg 214 precinct, the Lost Mountain 245 precinct, and the Riverside 265 precinct have all changed from Commissioner District 1 to 2. So, for you voters, your County Commissioner has just changed from Mark Ozias to Randy Johnson.
The Port Angeles 106 precinct has changed from District 2 to 3, so your Commissioner is now Bill Peach.
The Public Utility District, or PUD lines have been adjusted to create equal population within each of those districts as well.
Finally, because of population growth, six voter precincts in Port Angeles exceeded, or were about to exceed, their maximum allowable number of voters. Hundreds of voter’s addresses have been adjusted into adjoining precincts to even things out.
Clallam County Elections Manager Susan Johnson says all voters who are affected will be receiving a letter with an updated Voter Registration Card in the mail.
