LOCAL SPORTS: PA fastpitch now ranked #1 in state

PORT ANGELES — There is a new #1 ranked state 2A Girls Fast Pitch team and that honor belongs to the Port Angeles Roughriders. The Roughriders are now in first place as well in the Olympic league after the 14th ranked North Kitsap Vikings upset previously #1-ranked Olympic 3-2. The Roughriders have a tough game at home today against 11th-ranked North Mason. First pitch at 4:15 pm.

On Thursday, the Roughriders travel to 4th-ranked Olympic. The 18th ranked Sequim Wolves host Bremerton today then travel to 14th ranked North Kitsap on Thursday. Sequim has scored the most runs in the Olympic league with 140 and Port Angeles is 2nd with 136 runs scored.

Congratulations to the Port Angeles Roughrider Athletic Department. Going into the spring sports season, the Roughriders are ranked 10th in the state in the 2A class in the WIAA Scholastic Cup. The ratings are based on points earned by teams competing at the State Tournament level and a teams GPA ranking. The final ratings will be announced after the spring sports season is finished. There are sixty seven 2A schools. North Kitsap is ranked #13. Sequim is #50 and the #1 ranked school is Pullman.

In two baseball scores from last night, Sequim beat North Mason 5-1 and Port Angeles got a big win over Bainbridge 8-6.

In soccer action tonight Bremerton is at Sequim and Port Angeles is at Bainbridge both Kickoffs at 6:45.

In golf action Sequim is at Bremerton, Tee time at 3 pm.

In tennis, it’s the Highway 101 rivalry as Port Angeles travels to Sequim. First serve at 4 pm.
