PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff’s office took in more than 250 pounds of unwanted, unused, or expired medications during a drug take back day.
The event was held last Saturday in the Clallam County Courthouse parking lot.
This was the 22nd nationwide event since it began 12 years ago. Over the last 12 years, Americans had turned in a total of 7,634 tons of prescription medications. This prevents medications from falling into the wrong hands, being accidentally ingested by children and pets, and from release into our watersheds, thus enhancing social and environmental safety.
The Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition also handed out medication lock bags for securing medications from children and pets.
A similar event was held in Sequim, but totals for that part of the take back haven’t been released yet.
