PORT ANGELES — In girls fast pitch action, #1-ranked Port Angeles knocked off Kingston in 5 innings 12-1. Senior pitcher Teagan Clark was dominating giving up just 2 hits and one run and promising first-year relief pitcher Heidi Leitz came in, in the 5th inning and closed the deal with a strike out and 2 ground outs. On offense, Cheyenne Zimmer was big time again, with 2 hits 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Senior center fielder Emi Halberg had a big night at the plate with 2 hits and scoring 3 runs. Teagan Clark helped herself with 3 hits a walk and a run scored. The Roughriders will be heavy favorites today when they travel to Bremerton, first pitch at 4:15.
The Sequim Wolves are on the road today with a big game at Kingston first pitch at 4:15 pm. The Wolves cannot overlook Kingston with 10th ranked Olympic coming to Sequim Saturday morning first pitch at 10 am. After the Trojans tried to get out of playing the game, an Olympic administrator came into the picture, making the Trojans come to Sequim Saturday. This after the Olympic Athletic Department claimed the team could not make the trip to Sequim yesterday because they had no transportation.
It was a big day for Sequim and Port Angeles teams in district play yesterday, with the big upset taking place in Tacoma as the #7-seed Sequim Wolves soccer team went to #2-seed Franklin Pierce and knocked off the Cardinals 3-2. Franklin Pierce was 14-1 and the South Puget Sound Champions. The Wolves will now take on #6 seed Clover Park on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Port Angeles Roughrider baseball team beat Franklin Pierce 8-5. The Roughriders will take on Olympic today at Central Kitsap High School, first pitch at 4 pm.
In Olympic League boys golf play, Port Angeles will send 3 Roughriders to district. Edun Bailey and Nate Anderson tied for 12th both shooting a 94. Phoenix Flores placed 15th shooting a 95. Sequim was dominating as expected. Ben Sweet placed 1st shooting a 79. Dominic Riccobenne placed 2nd, shooting an 80.
