Gas station attendant arrested following assault of customer

PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles police are reporting an assault on a gas station customer Saturday evening, and the suspect in custody is the gas station attendant on duty at the time.

Officers were dispatched at 5:40pm and arrived to find the victim was a man in his 60s, who told them he had been attacked by the employee.

After reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, officers were able to determine that the victim drove his truck into the gas station parking lot and was slowly backing his truck toward a gas pump. They say a female driver pulled in quickly behind him and ran into his trailer hitch, resulting in a minor collision.

The woman, whose husband is the gas station attendant, accosted the victim about the collision. Police say her husband rushed over, grabbed the victim by the throat, choked him, forced him to the ground, and “rained punches down on him for about 30-45 seconds until he was convinced to stop by witnesses.”

The Officers arrested and booked the suspect for Assault Second Degree. The victim received treatment for his injuries.

The prosecutor is reviewing the case.
