PORT ANGELES – No one was hurt, but a dramatic fire destroyed attached buildings and part of a residence west of Port Angeles.
About 12:30 Wednesday morning, Clallam 2 Fire Rescue was called to a residential structure fire at 4423 Dry Creek Road.
Fire Chief Jake Patterson says the first arriving encountered a large volume of fire coming from the shed and carport with fire extending into the attached residence. It was reported there were several explosions during the fire and there were fireworks stored in the shed along with several propane cylinders.
Two fire district water tenders with 3,000 gallons of water each also responded to establish a water supply. They supplied water from Dry Creek Road which was blocked for several hours by fire vehicles.
Patterson says there were a total of eight individuals living on the property. The occupant, who rents the home, reported three adults and five children were in the residence at the time of the fire, as well as two adults in an RV on the property. Everyone was able to safely evacuate.
Patterson says preliminary investigation indicates the area of origin to be the shed based on burn patterns and occupant statements. There was an RV plugged in with an extension cord to power in the shed, but that had been like this for several months. Due to the extensive damage to the shed and carport, an exact cause is undetermined.
