CLALLAM COUNTY – Authorities appear to be closing in on the couple they think is responsible for the July 20 burglaries of Lietz Farm Supply and Hartnagel Building Supply.
Investigators say additional video was obtained from a business that captured the suspect truck pulling into the south side of PA Power Equipment that night at about 2:20am. PA Power’s fence was cut but nothing was stolen. This same vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, was also seen at the John Wayne Marina where the Sequim Police reported multiple vehicle prowls.
Deputy Parker checked with 7 Cedars and found surveillance video showing the same truck pulling into the casino about 10 minutes after they left John Wayne Marina. The male and female in the truck met up with another man at the casino. That man was driving a box truck suspected to be used to transport the stolen items.
The Tacoma had stolen plates (RX1802), which were taken from a vehicle in the Bainbridge Island area. The truck (PENNYM8) is associated with a real-estate group in Poulsbo.
Deputy Parker contacted both agencies and passed on the photos provided by 7 Cedars. Bainbridge PD was able to identify the male suspect in the burglaries as Cory G Smith. They were very familiar with him, and this fits his MO.
Sequim Officer Dailidenas was able to identify Cory Smith as the male who entered the vehicles at John Wayne Marina. Two handguns were stolen from one of the vehicles, a Kimber .45 and a Smith&Wesson .38 Special.
