CLALLAM COUNTY – The North Olympic Library System hasn’t had a Bookmobile since 1981. But that’s about to change.
Starting this fall, a brand new Bookmobile will set out to bring books to readers throughout Clallam County, and on Wednesday NOLS revealed the artwork that will appear on the exterior of their new rig.
Created by Matthew Fleming, a Sequim-based illustrator and graphic designer, the artwork depicts kids racing to pick up more books to read, and people with stacks of books piled high under a hammock, on a park bench, and loaded into a wagon.
Fleming has created artwork for musicians as diverse as Chris Stapleton and Dave Matthews. You may have seen logos he designed for the Lefties baseball team and Bourbon West in Port Angeles.
Fleming says the Bookmobile graphics were inspired by his own memories of his mother pulling him to the library in a wagon.
The new Bookmobile is in production and will arrive at NOLS this fall, when staff will begin operations training, host Bookmobile pop-ups and appear at community-based events. In 2023, the Bookmobile will begin traveling throughout the community along established routes to offer materials for checkout and other services.
