PORT ANGELES — Monday marked the first day of the final push to complete construction of the Field Arts & Events Hall on the Port Angeles waterfront, and the Board and staff are holding to their promise to celebrate opening night on July 1 next year.
Executive Director Steven Raider-Ginsburg said workers were all over the building Monday and they are now full steam ahead to complete construction in the next 11 months.
“Yeah, getting all the technical equipment, the casework, seats will be coming in, the orchestra shell’s coming in, the theater curtains, all of that throughout the next year.”
Mortensen Construction, LMN Architects, Vanir Construction Management and dozens of local subcontractors are working together in the effort, and Board President Brooke Taylor says he’s very proud that the majority of the workers are from our area.
“It’s a very technical building, in a lot of ways. A very complicated building, but still a lot of the work is basic craft work. You know, the welding, the steelwork, the glazing, the framing in the walls, all that kind of stuff. It’s just basic construction work. And these guys are really good at it. And the guys that are here, you know, obviously, this is their community. They got some pride in the building just like all the rest of us do.”
Having raised over $40M towards the $50M project, there is still some money to be raised, but Raider-Ginsburg and the Board are confident that they’ll get there. Raider-Ginsburg says we’ll hear more about upcoming fundraisers around the first of the year.
Field Arts & Events Hall is also getting the work out that they are looking to build their volunteer and intern teams, and there are various job openings as well, including Director of Sales and Marketing for Conferences and Events, Campaign Manager and more.
