PORT ANGELES – The area’s largest school district is outlining its COVID strategies heading into the new school year.
In an email to families, Port Angeles Schools Superintendent Marty Brewer outlined how the district plans to use the guidance from the state Department of Health as classrooms open in a couple of weeks.
Brewer says students and staff who show symptoms of COVID-19 are required to stay home, and should test for COVID-19.
If there’s a positive test, you are required to isolate at home for five days and inform your school. If symptoms improve after five days and there’s no fever for the past 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications, students and staff can come back to school. But after returning students and staff will have to wear a well-fitted mask and stay out of extra-curricular activities for an additional five days.
Brewer says the district is required to inform about cases or outbreaks in school and will communicate that information every Friday on the district’s website.
Also, per state regulations, all school employees and volunteers must be fully up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations or have obtained a medical or religious exemption. Those with exemptions must test at home on a weekly basis and fill out a one-time acknowledgment attestation form provided by Human Resources.
