PORT ANGELES – High school football is returning to the north Olympic Peninsula airwaves.
Newsradio KONP has released its 2022 high school football broadcast schedule and has named a veteran crew who will handle the games broadcasts, as games return after a two-year hiatus.
KONP will broadcast 10 football games, highlighted by the Sept 17th game of Port Angeles taking on North Kitsap at Lumen Field; the home of the Seahawks. The Sequim Wolves will have four games broadcast with a big, non-league trip to 5th ranked class 1A Tenino Sept 9th. The Highway 101 Rainshadow Rumble rivalry game will take place Sept 23rd with Sequim at Port Angeles.
A veteran crew of Oly Archibald and hall-of-fame football coach Jon Wahl will handle the broadcast duties. Wahl was inducted into the “WIAA Hall of Fame” in 1991, after a head coaching career of 22 years and compiling a record of 150-50 including three straight Class 1A state championships at Raymond from 1973 -1975. Wahl also coached at WF West, Hoquiam and Ocosta. Wahl will handle the color commentator and game analyst duties. Archibald, in his 40th broadcast season, has broadcast several state championship games will have the play-by-play duties. Archibald has broadcast high school and junior college games for seven different radio stations across the state.
All games can be heard live on Newsradio KONP at AM 1450, FM 10.7 (Port Angeles), FM 101.3 (Sequim) and at myclallamcounty.com. Pregame shows will start one hour before kickoff.
