PASD strike averted

PORT ANGELES – A teachers’ strike in Port Angeles has been averted.

After another round of bargaining sessions Friday, Saturday and Monday, the teachers’ union and school district reached a tentative agreement Monday afternoon.

Port Angeles Education Association members met for a general membership meeting last night in which members voted to ratify the agreement with 99.4% approval of the new contract.

That means school is back in session as normal. The union had announced it would strike today if an agreement had not been reached over the weekend.

In addition to a cost-of-living increase, both sides agreed to language on caseloads for interventionists and in special needs classes. They also reached an agreement on class sizes and planning time.
