PORT ANGELES – A man was arrested after an incident that led to closure of a main street in Port Angeles.
About 12:45 yesterday afternoon, Port Angeles police were called to a report of a man “yelling, agitated, screaming and waving a firearm around” in the area of the Chevron gas station at First and Albert.
Officers shut down First Street due to the report of a handgun being displayed. They then formed a contact team, giving the man directions through a trained negotiator. Officers with a tactical shield used a rifle with a sponge round to take the man into custody. Officers say a realistic looking replica of a handgun was recovered from the scene.
Forty-three year old Jonathan Johnson was taken to Olympic Medical Center and was later released and booked into the jail on assault and obstructing law enforcement.
