SEQUIM — There were 142 high school Cross Country runners for the Olympic league meet hosted by Sequim at the Voice of America park yesterday. In the boys meet Port Angeles finished 4th and were led by Max Baeder who finished 3rd among 71 runners with a time of 13:32. Owen Randall of Sequim finished 7th with a time of 18:09. Sequim finished 7th overall. In Girls, Kaitlyn Bloomenrader of Sequim finished 3rd with a time of 21:04. Liberty Mavy finished 8th with a time of 21:53. Leia Larson of Port Angeles finished 10th with a time of 22:03.

In swimming, the Roughriders again ruled the pool as they blew out East Jefferson 131-51. The Roughriders won all 12 events and swept 2 individual events placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. In the 200-meter free style and 100-meter free style it was Harper McGuire, Danika Asgeirisson and Lizzy Shaw. Other Roughriders placing first were: Lynzee Reid with 2, Sara Wilson with 2, Grace Possinger, Yau Fu and Brooke St Luise.

Covid has hit a couple of teams in the Olympic League and there has been last-minute cancellations throughout the league.

In soccer tonight, North Mason is at Port Angeles with the kickoff at 6:45 pm. Sequim travels to Olympic kickoff at 6:45 pm. In volleyball, Sequim is at Olympic first serve at 6:30 pm. In tennis, it is Senior night for the Roughriders, they host Sequim at 4 pm.

High school football tomorrow night has Port Angeles is at Bainbridge and Sequim is at North Mason with the kickoff at 7pm. The Sequim game will be broadcast live on KONP radio 1450 am with the Les Schwab Tire Pre-game show at 6 pm. The show will include Sequim Defensive Coordinator Mike McFarlan, Wolves freshman flanker Adrian Aragon and sophomore lineman Braydan White. The Wolves VIP Halftime Show will be former Wolves and current Peninsula Pirate soccer stand out Hannah Wagner.

One of the greatest coaches in the history of Port Angeles High School is retiring. Roughrider fast pitch coach Randy Steinman who has had a Hall of Fame career is stepping down. KONP Radio will have more on this story tomorrow.
