LOCAL SPORTS: Sequim overcomes weather, Knights to take critical soccer match

BREMERTON — In Olympic League soccer play last night, the Sequim Wolves braved horrid weather conditions to beat Bremerton 3-1. With 30 mph wind bursts and driving on and off rain, the Wolves scored at the 26th minute mark when Taryn Johnson scored off a corner kick by Raimy Brewer. It was Johnson’s 23rd goal of the season. At the 51st minute Jenny Gomez scored off a corner kick from Raimy Brewer. Gomez ended the scoring with a goal at the 70th minute mark. It was the 9th goal of the season for Gomez.  The critical win keeps the Wolves in the District Playoff hunt.

The Port Angeles Roughriders lost at home to 3A Bainbridge 2-0. The Roughriders host Kingston tonight at 6:45.

In volleyball action, the Sequim Wolves as expected swept Bremerton in 3 straight games.

In NWAC soccer action today, the #1 ranked Peninsula Pirate Women host Bellevue at 2 pm and the 2nd ranked Pirate Men host Bellevue at 4 pm.

In the Peninsula soccer league action, Windermere (6-0-1) beat Forks FC (5-1-1) 5-3. Luis Galvin had a hat trick for Windermere. Jesus Ayala had 2 goals for Forks FC. Bandidos FC shut out High Energy 5-0. Cedric Bailey had a hat trick for the FC Bandidos.  Los Primos beat Pura Vida 5-3. Christian Torres had 2 goals for Los Primos.

In the Peninsula basketball league, 7 Cedars beat Any Time Fitness 68-44. Kasey Ulin had 17 for 7 Cedars and Jayson Brocklesby had 21 for Any Time Fitness.

Bayview Flooring beat Adam’s Tree Service 78-43. Cody Holding and Derek Schumacher had 19 points for Bayview and Ace Sech had 14 points for Adam’s Tree Service.
