SEQUIM – The Sequim School District in June reached a settlement with former Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Maughan, who was placed on paid administrative leave in September of last year.
According to the District, the settlement was reached in order to avoid litigation with Maughan and included a payout of $725,000 plus wages and benefits paid through October 3 of this year, valued at a little over $47,000.
In 2021 Maughan filed a discrimination and retaliation complaint against Interim Superintendent Jane Pryne and was placed on paid administrative leave the next day.
In 2022, she filed a Tort claim with the District seeking $3 million for assault she claimed was inflicted by HR Director Randy Hill.
The District has since eliminated the job of Assistant Superintendent for budgetary reasons.
Besides the payout, the settlement also says the District will provide a neutral letter of reference if requested as long as Maughan agrees to never again seek employment with the District. It also says that neither Maughan nor the District admits to any wrongdoing or liability, and was signed by Maughan and Interim Superintendent Joan Zook in June, before the hiring of current Superintendent Regan Nickels.
