LOCAL SPORTS: PA caps football season with a win, tough losses in soccer and volleyball

PORT ANGELES — It was a mixed bag of wins and losses for area sports teams over the weekend. The big winners were the Port Angeles Roughriders football team who won their 3rd straight game knocking off 3A Metro league member Chief Sealth 28-14. Kason Albaugh scored on a block punt and scored on a run from scrimmage. Landon Jones also scored a touchdown, and the Roughriders finished their 2022 season with a respectable 4-6 record.

In high school volleyball action, Port Angeles was swept by North Mason and North Kitsap took 3 of 4 from Sequim at the Olympic League tournament finals Saturday.

The matchups are set for the district tournament beginning Friday Morning at Franklin Pierce high school. #10 seed Port Angeles will face off against 15th seed Clover Park. #5 seed Sequim will take on #4 seed White River. The start times will be announced today.

Not a good weekend for area soccer teams. The Port Angeles Roughriders season ended with a 1-0 loss to Lindberg. Lindberg then lost to Sammamish 3-0 Saturday as Sammamish will head to the state tournament. The Roughriders end a very good season with a 11-6 record.

It was a very tough day at Peninsula College in the quarter finals of the NWAC soccer tournament. The #1-ranked Pirate Women blew a 2-0 halftime lead and lost to Spokane in a 5-4 shootout in overtime. Millie Long and Brianna Jean Tanaka had first half goals for the Pirates. The Pirates end their season with a 12-1-2 record.

The #1-ranked Pirate men were eliminated by Walla Walla 2-0. The Pirates end their season with a 15-4-3 record.

At the state high school cross country meet in Pasco, Port Angeles Roughrider Jack Gladfelter finished 3rd and Max Baeder finished 15th. Overall, the Roughriders finished in 12th place.

The Sequim Wolves girls team finished in 15th place. Kaitlyn Bloomenrader had the fastest Wolves time and finished in 35th place.
