LOCAL ELECTIONS: King wins sheriff, Emery wins DCD, French leading in commissioner race

PORT ANGELES – Voters in Clallam County have elected a new sheriff, community development director and appear to be replacing a sitting Clallam County Commissioner.

In results Wednesday, Brian King cruised to victory in his race against Marc Titterness to replace retiring sheriff Bill Benedict. King received 77 percent of the vote.

Bruce Emery was leading Cherie Kidd to be the next community development director. Emery had nearly double Kidd’s vote total, bringing in 66 percent of the vote.

Democrat Mike French is defeating incumbent Republican Bill Peach for County Commissioner. French has 53 percent of the vote through  Wednesday’s tally.

Ken Hays is leading Will Purser for Clallam PUD commissioner. Hays is leading by 500 votes in the count Wednesday night.

Voters are returning the two Democrat House members for the 24th District.  Mike Chapman is defeating Republican Sue Forde garnering 55 percent of the vote.

Steve Tharinger appears to have defeated Brian Pruiett. Tharinger pulling in 54 percent of the district wide vote.

US Congressman Democrat Derek Kilmer has won another term. He defeated Republican Elizabeth Kreiselmaier getting 61 percent of the vote.

There are still about 13-thousand ballots left to count in Clallam County.

Voter turnout through Wednesday stood at about 50 percent.
