FEDERAL WAY — In the state diving meet yesterday, the Port Angeles Roughriders were represented by Lynzee Reid and Grace Possinger. 23, 2A divers qualified for state and Grace Possinger made it all the way to the finals where she placed 12 in the state. So, congratulations to Grace and Lynzee on their Diving season and both athletes will have events in today’s State Swimming preliminaries that start at 1:30 pm. The Finals will start tomorrow at 1:15 pm.

The Bi District 2/3 volleyball tournament starts today at Franklin Pierce HS. Port Angeles takes on Clover Park at 11 am and Sequim will take on White River at 3 pm.

Allison Crumbs’ #1 ranked Peninsula Pirates have a week of practice left before they open their non-conference season with a tough road trip to Pasco where they will play Eastern conference powers Walla Walla on Friday night and then Columbia Basin on Saturday.  The Pirates who lost in the NWAC championship game to Lower Columbia College on a desperation buzzer beater are loaded again with All NWAC talent. The Pirates return former Roughrider Millie Long who was last year’s Northern Division MVP and 1st team member Ituau Tuisaula, a 6’1″ Sophomore out of Soldotna, Alaska. The top-rated newcomer is 5’7″ shooting guard Chasity Selden, a transfer from the University of New Mexico.  Selden was a three-time all-state selection out of Chugak High School in Eagle River, Alaska. Two other local players, 6’0″ sophomore Gina Brown out of Port Townsend and 5’7″ guard Ruth Moss out of Neah Bay, will see a lot more playing time with obvious improvement seen in fall practice. The Pirates will host a three-day tournament December 2nd through the 4th with the big game on Sunday night, a 6 pm tip off against 2nd ranked Lower Columbia College. That game will be broadcast on Newsradio KONP.

In the Peninsula Basketball League action, Black Diamond Electrical beat 7 Cedars Casino 78-40. Bryant Hoch led Black Diamond with 23 points, Andrew Halberg and Dallas Dunning had 13 points for 7 Cedars. Olympic Health Care beat Big Barn Ballers 63-31. Caleb Messinger scored 14 points for Olympic, and Justin Riddho hit for 8 points for the Ballers.
