LOCAL SPORTS: Roughriders roll Olympic and sink Klahowya

SILVERDALE — In a girls high school basketball game you heard on KONP last night, the Port Angeles Roughriders blew out the Olympic Trojans 53-18. Once again, the Roughrider full-court press had the Trojans waving the white flag in the first quarter. The Roughriders led 15-5 after one quarter and led 31-8 at the half. Roughrider head coach Mike Poindexter suited up 11 of his players on varsity and all 11 saw plenty of action. Senior point guard Anna Petty led the way with 17 points. 5’5 freshman forward Kennedy Rognlien was next in scoring with eight points and Rognlien made her first KONP post game show, the first of many to come. Freshman guard Teanna Clark hit two, 3-point shots and had six points. Freshman point guard Lindsay Smith had four points and played well. The Roughriders are now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in league play. They will host a very good Peninsula Seahawk game Saturday at 3:30 pm, another game you’ll hear on KONP.

In the boys game, Port Angels continues to blow teams out. This time it was Olympic. The Riders thumped the Trojans 81 – 24. The PA JVs won 76-33. But the real story here, Roughrider Reid Schmidt scored 33 points in the first half including six three pointers.

In the Peninsula men’s basketball playoffs, 7 Cedars Casino beat Strait Floors 63-56 to advance to the Championship game against Black Diamond Electric tonight at 7:30 pm in the Pirates Gym. Kasey Ulin poured in 24 points and Gabe Long hit for 18 for 7 Cedars. Jayson Brocklesby had 20 points for Strait Floors.

In high school swimming, the Roughriders sank Klahowya 123-23. First place finishers were, 200 Medley Relay Blake Nahory, Aiden Butterworth, Alex Che, and Landon Close. Other winners were:

50 Free– Alex Che

100 Fly– Landon Close

100 Free– Davis Hueter

500 Free– Colby Ellefson

200 Free Relay– Keane McClain, Landon Close, Will Roening and Alex Che

100 Back-. Blake Nahory (0.2 seconds off a state qualifying mark)

100 Breast– Alex Che

400 Free Relay– Will Roening, Landon Close, Blake Nahory and Colby Ellefson.
