Man arrested in murder of Idaho students

MOSCOW, Idaho — A man has been arrested in connection to the off-campus murders of four University of Idaho students on Nov. 13, ABC News and The Associated Press reported Friday morning.

Bryan Kohberger, 28, was found in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, the news outlets reported, citing law enforcement sources. A SWAT team entered the location where Kohberger was staying in order to take him into custody Friday, and he appeared before a judge Friday morning, ABC reported.

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University in Pullman lists a Ph.D. student by the name of Bryan Kohberger on its website.  Pullman is a short drive across the state line from the University of Idaho.

A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday by Moscow police, Idaho State Police, Moscow city leaders and University of Idaho officials.

A law enforcement official confirmed the arrest to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they could not publicly discuss details of the investigation ahead of the press conference.

The four roommates found stabbed in their off-campus apartment were Mount Vernon’s Ethan Chapin, 20, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho’s Madison Mogen, 21, Avondale, Arizona’s Xana Kernodle, 20, and Rathdrum, Idaho’s Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

Autopsies revealed all four were likely asleep when they were attacked. Some had defensive wounds and each was stabbed multiple times, police said, adding there was no sign of sexual assault.
