SEQUIM – If the City Council approves it Monday, the Sequim Police Department will be getting 2 new hybrid Ford Interceptor police cars in the near future.
The approved 2023 budget already includes funding to purchase two police fleet vehicles. The plan is to use the buying power of the Washington State bid program, taking advantage of volume pricing discounts that the State, counties and cities can join.
With Council approval, two Ford Interceptor utility police package vehicles will be purchased. One will be black and white and outfitted for patrol duties. The second will be outfitted for use by detectives. Both new Interceptors are hybrids.
The State contract price for the two cars is projected to be about $45,000 each. This cost is essentially just the car with a few police enhancements. Additional police equipment and upfitting costs are estimated at $30,000 each, so the total cost for two patrol vehicles will not exceed $160,000, which is already budgeted.
