BELLEVUE– In NWAC women’s college basketball action, the 2nd-ranked Peninsula Pirates women’s team was upset by Bellevue 68-65 in overtime. The Pirates shot an ice cold 31% from the floor and were no better from the 3-point stripe by hitting just 4 of 26 shots for 15%. Ituau Tuisaula played just 6 minutes in the first half because of 2 fouls. In the 2nd half, she scored 19 points for a game high 21. Millie Long hit for 20 points and Jenilee Donavon hit for 15 points.
The 2nd-ranked Pirate men continued their winning ways with a hard fought 76-70 win over the defending NWAC champion Bulldogs. The Pirates led 33-27 at the half. The Pirates shot 42% from the floor and the Pirates out rebounded the Bulldogs 45-36. Roosevelt Williams Junior led the Pirates with 22 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Ese Onakpoma showed his great athletic ability to get to the rim scoring 19 points always in heavy traffic. Max D’Amato hit for 13 points and Malik Jackson had a big night with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Pirates are now 14-1 and travel to Shoreline on Saturday the women tip off at 2 pm the men at 4 pm.
