PORT ANGELES – Olympic Medical Center is looking to help train people in the community to deal with possible active shooter incidents.

OMC is bringing ALICE Instructor Certification Training to Port Angeles March 14th and 15th. The course will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

OMC’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Tom Kuch says the two-day instructor course teaches proactive response option survival strategies for violent critical incidents

“The idea is to teach people the skills or options that are available when an active shooter situation goes down. And, as you know, that’s becoming more and more common these days. So the idea is for these people to come in and teach people from different organizations and then the people who come and learn in the class will take that back to their organization and teach the people there,” said Kuch.

Kuch says the idea for the course is not based on any imminent threat to OMC or the community.

“No, not at all. We just wanted to bring training to the hospital and teach our people here. They could have sent us to training somewhere else when they decided, you know what, how about if we host the training and then we could get a whole bunch of more people in our community trained up as well,” said Kuch.

Kuch says the training is open to individuals as well.  The training costs $749 dollars and registration is now open. Go to navigate360.com You can find more details on the training. Go to the “ALICE certified training” under the training tab. There you can find the Port Angeles event. Kuch also says people can contact him at Olympic Medical Center with questions.
