Land Trust secures deal to preserve another 56 acres of farmland

SEQUIM – North Olympic Land Trust announced Tuesday the finalization of the deal to preserve 56 acres known as Mid Valley Farm between Sequim-Dungeness Way and Evans Road as farmland forever.

Thanks to community support and Conservation Futures funding from Clallam County, a conservation easement was signed on Monday. It’s the 24th farm protected by the Land Trust since its inception.

The Land Trust’s Board has set a goal to double the pace of farmland conservation over the next ten years while continuing to meet habitat conservation goals. The Land Trust described the conservation of Mid Valley Farm as a strategic start to that commitment.

Sealing the deal required raising about a million dollars, and much of that was made possible thanks to a grant from Clallam County and their Conservation Futures Fund, state funding, and the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program.

The property consists of 45 acres of farmland, almost 10 acres of natural habitat, and infrastructure that will help farmers process and refrigerate their crop yields.
