LOCAL SPORTS: Sequim looks to lock league championship and district tourney spots

SEQUIM — Tonight, the two big high school games are in Sequim and Silverdale. The Sequim boys, who are in 3rd place in the Olympic League, can clinch that 3rd place spot with a win over Olympic. The Wolves are 6-6 in league play a game ahead of Olympic who have a 5-7 league record. The Wolves beat Olympic 53-47 at Olympic. Tip off time is 7 pm.

The 2nd-ranked Sequim girls, who are 12-0 in league play and 16-0 overall, can claim the Olympic League championship tonight with a win over Olympic. You can hear tonight’s game on Newsradio KONP. The Les Schwab Tires pre-game show starts at 6:45 pm with the tip off time at 7 pm.

Both the Roughriders boys and girls teams should get some confidence back with the boys traveling to Kingston and the girls hosting Kingston. Both games tip off at 7 pm.

In NWAC action tomorrow, the Peninsula Pirates will head to Everett. The Pirate women ranked 5th with a 4-2 conference record and a 12-4 conference record will be big favorites over Everett who are 0-6 in conference.

The men’s game will be the game of the night in the NWAC. The Pirates are ranked 2nd, 6-0 in conference play and 19-1 overall. Everett is ranked 3rd, 4-2 in conference play and 17-4 overall. Both games will be broadcast live on Newsradio KONP. The 7 Cedars Casino pre-game show starts at 4:45 pm, with the women tipping off at 5 pm.

Looking at former Roughriders hoop players now at the college ranks, Eve Burke at Linfield College is averaging 5 points per game and 4 rebounds per game while playing 21 minutes a game. Burke had a game high of 15 points against Cal Lutheran. Jaida Wood at PLU is scoring 2 points per game and getting 8 minutes a game. Wood had a game high of 5 against Lewis & Clark. Wyatt Dunning at Yakima CC is getting 11 minutes a game and scoring 3 ppg.

In high school boys swimming tomorrow the Roughriders will host Sequim and Bainbridge at 3 pm.
