PORT ANGELES – 23-year-old Izaiah Calloway of Forks pleaded guilty Wednesday in Clallam County Superior Court to first degree manslaughter in the death of his daughter, 7-week-old Faye River Raven Yates, in April of 2020.
During an interview with Tacoma police in 2020, Calloway confessed to assaulting the baby in his Forks home because she would not stop crying. Her heart stopped beating, after allegedly being thrown into a chair, but she was resuscitated at Forks Community Hospital and flown to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, where she died 3 days later.
A death diagnosis found that the baby had multiple traumatic injuries, including broken ribs.
Calloway, who was originally charged with murder, pleaded guilty to manslaughter with the prosecutor recommending 8.5 years in prison followed by 36 months community custody with requirements for successful completion of an anger management class and successful completion of a parenting class.
Calloway is scheduled to be sentenced on May 24.
