Inslee won’t seek fourth term as Washington governor

OLYMPIA – Washington Governor Jay Inslee will not seek a fourth term.

Inslee announced this morning that he will step down as governor when his current term expires in 2024.

He was first elected Governor in 2012. He was reelected to a third term in 2020, making him only the second Washington state governor to serve three consecutive terms.

In a press release, Inslee said: “Serving the people as governor of Washington state has been my greatest honor. During a decade of dynamic change, we’ve made Washington a beacon for progress for the nation. I’m ready to pass the torch.”

He says he plans to stay active in the next year and a half and wants to partner with legislators and community leaders to address Washington’s homelessness crisis, speed efforts to expand behavioral health services, fight against climate change, and “continue making Washington a beacon of progress for all.”
