PORT ANGELES – Once again, this coming first Saturday in May has been chosen for the 3rd Annual Big Spring Spruce Up in Downtown Port Angeles.
This is the event that brings volunteers together to work in teams to beautify the downtown area. Each group of volunteers will tackle a designated area, and tasks will include pulling weeds, picking up trash, and removing debris along the streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.
The event is brought to you by the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce and ElevatePA, and is sponsored this year by Port Angeles Realty.
Chamber Director Marc Abshire, on KONP’s Morning Scramble, said they’ll be expanding the scope this a little year.
“We’re expanding just a little bit. We’re expanding up Front Street, the up the hill there a little bit more, and maybe going up Lincoln just a little bit more than we have in the past. But that’s pretty much it. Concentrate on downtown, and we’re going to really sock it to the City Pier area.”
The action kicks off at 9:00am and wraps up at noon. Before and after the work, they’ll provide coffee and treats.
“We have coffee and donuts at 8:30 in the morning, right down there where the ice skating rink is. Just show up and have some coffee and donuts. And then we’ll put a trowel in your hand and you can go help us pull some weeds and sweep up some trash and that sort of thing. And then we’ll feed you and entertain you at noon.”
You can RSVP by going to Portangeles.org, or just show up to Event Central on Saturday, May 6th anytime after 9:00 am. Be sure to wear work clothes, shoes, and gloves. If you have them, bring garden claws, flat head shovels, brooms, and rakes.
