PORT ANGELES — It was like the movie “Ground Hog Day” at Dry creek field as the #1 ranked North Kitsap Vikings solidified their ranking and Olympic League championship with a 7-5 win over the 9th-ranked Roughriders in a game that was very similar to the 7-4 Viking win two weeks ago.
In that game, sophomore Viking Pitcher Reese Anderson struck out 15 Roughriders, yesterday it was 13 strike outs. Like the first game, the Vikings jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead. A Roughrider homerun by Heidi Leitz in the 2nd inning was the only Roughrider run until the bottom of the 7th inning. The Roughriders had 4 of their 10 hits in the bottom of the 4th in which they scored 4 runs to make the final score 7-5. At the plate, Natalie Robinson had a 7th inning homerun. Abby Kimball had a single and a triple with a run scored. Kennedy Rognlien kept up her hot bat hitting 2 singles. Lily Halberg had 2 singles and scored a run.
Down 6-1 in the top of the 5th, the usual starter Cheyenne Zimmer came in as a relief pitcher and was outstanding striking out the first 3 batters. Zimmer in her 3 innings struck out 7 of the 11 Vikings she faced.
The Roughriders host Sequim at 4:15 pm today. Both teams are 9-4 in league play. The winner most likely will end in a 2nd place tie with Olympic while the loser will finish 4th.

Sequim senior pitcher Laney Vig will be looking to get her 2nd win over the Roughriders
The drawing for the District tournament will take place this weekend.
