JOYCE – The body of an elderly resident of a mobile home in Joyce was found in his burned-out home.
Sunday evening at about seven, firefighters were called to reports of the fire in the 1000 block of Peters Road after a neighbor called 911. Pencom dispatch received reports from other neighbors who saw a black plume of smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters responded quickly and distinguished the fire.
Firefighters were able to get the fire out, but the man who lived there was reported missing. A body was found in the residence after an overnight search of the property and overhaul of the fire scene.
89-year-old John L. Kahler was the only occupant and resident of the home. Officials say the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious but is undetermined. Kahler’s official cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy.
