PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles City Council has voted to give itself a raise.
This week, the council approved an ordinance hiking the pay for council members from $550 a month to $1200 a month. The mayor would get $1300 a month and deputy mayor would receive $1200 a month. The raise applies to any newly or re-elected council member starting next year.
The council has struck an annual 2.5% increase in pay. Instead, the topic of council compensation will be included as a discussion every other year.
The approved ordinance includes the ability for Council to receive travel reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses, including costs for childcare.
This is the first increase in pay for the council in 20 years.
